13th National Client Interviewing and Counselling Skills Competition

Network of University Legal Aid Institutions (NULAI Nigeria) organized the 13th edition of Nigeria’s National Client Interviewing and counseling skills competition on January 26 & 27, 2018. The program was hosted by the Faculty of Law, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

The theme for this year’s competition was: “Contracts: Mistakes and other Bases for non-performance”.

Twelve (12) Law Faculties participated in the completion namely; Abia State University, Ambrose Alli University, Ahmadu Bello University, Ebonyi State University, Enugu State University, Nasarawa State University, Usmanu Danfodio University, University of Abuja, University of Ilorin, University of Maiduguri, University of Nigeria, and University of Uyo.

There were a total of 157 participants at the event. The opening ceremony of the program had guests from the Ebonyi State Executive Council, Judiciary, Nigeria Police (Ebonyi State Command) Nigeria Prison Service and University Council including Prof. Ekumankama (DVC Admin) Representing the Vice Chancellor Ebonyi State University; Prof. Amari Omaka Chukwu (SAN) Dean of Law, Ebonyi State University; Justice F. O. Ibiam; Chief Cletus Ofoke and Prof. Ernest Ojukwu, SAN, National Representative Brown Mosten International Consultation Competition. There were also professionals from different fields who volunteered as judges and clients respectively.

The competition was conducted in 2 preliminary rounds, 2 semi-final rounds and a final round. Three (3) teams competed at the final as follows: 1. Nasarawa State University; 2. University of Abuja 3. Ebonyi State University

At the end of the final round, Ebonyi State University represented by Princess Otah & Bright Iteshi finished in the 1st position while University of Abuja represented by Samuel Nnaji Chukwu & Faith Joshua and Nasarawa State University represented by Mbadzedzei Silas& Bernard Ajegba finished as 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively.
